Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers a variety of opportunities to area musicians. In addition to our comprehensive orchestra education program, SVYS has a Summer Strings program and a Chamber Ensemble program.
Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony offers five levels of youth orchestras. Students with no prior musical background can begin in Starter Strings as early as third grade. Participation in the program culminates with SVYS's premiere ensemble the Youth Symphony. See the Ensembles Page for more information about each level.
In addition to offering youth orchestra education, Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony hosts an adult community orchestra, the Sangamon Valley Civic Orchestra.
Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony offers summer lessons and day camp opportunities for string players in the greater Springfield area. Interested musicians can enroll in the six week lesson program or one of our week long camps. You do not need to be enrolled in an SVYS ensemble to participate in the summer program.
The Chamber Music Program is an optional ensemble for Youth Symphony musicians. Those interested will attend weekly rehearsals with experienced instructors. Interested Youth Symphony musicians have an opportunity to enroll in the chamber program during season registration. Rehearsals begin the first week of September and conclude at the end of the orchestra season. This is a tuition based program. Contact the SVYS office for additional information.
