Excerpts Image

The ensemble conductors will conduct the auditions, which will include scales, prepared solo, orchestral excerpts, and sightreading. Auditions are held in private without accompaniment and will last about 5 minutes. We will inform students of their acceptance by e-mail shortly after the auditions.

Auditions for new and returning musicians participating in the 2017-2018 season will be held on August 29th and 30th, 2017. If you are a new student joining SVYS and missed our fall auditions, contact our office for more details on mid-year auditions.

How to choose the appropriate excerpts:

Returning members may wish to remain in the same ensemble or audition for a higher placement. We recommend consulting with your private music teacher or your conductor in making this decision. Choose the audition excerpts for the ensemble you wish to join.

New students should seek advice from their private music teacher or contact SVYS for assistance. Read detailed descriptions of the skill level expectations for each ensemble, and review the audition excerpts posted below.
