Governance and Administration
The Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony is governed by a Board of Directors, elected on an annual basis and charged with formulating and executing policies as provided for in the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony by-laws. The Board generally meets on the first Monday of the month at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S. 6th Street, Springfield, Illinois.
The SVYS Bylaws provide for guest attendance at Board meetings:
Adult participants in the corporation’s programs, and parents of minor children participating in the corporation’s programs are invited to attend meetings of the board of directors as observers. Minor children and other members of the public may attend only by invitation of an officer or a majority of the board of directors. Guests wishing to address the board must contact an officer two weeks in advance of the meeting and request that an item be placed on the agenda.
Board members not only contribute financially to the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony, but also volunteer their time and talents to further the purposes of the organization. Board members include individuals from the community, parents of current orchestra members and parents of orchestra alumni.
Illinois Symphony Orchestra Affiliation
The SVYS and Illinois Symphony Orchestra have executed an agreement in which the ISO provides artistic direction and administrative services by the ISO Music Director and other members of the ISO staff.
