SVYS Concerto Competition
The Concerto Competition Preliminary Round will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012. The accompanist is not needed for this round.
The Concerto Competition Finals Recital (with accompaniment) will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the Hoogland Center for the Arts.
ELIGIBILITY:
A student must be a member of the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra (SVYSO) and audition on the instrument they play in the SVYSO. Last year’s winner(s) are not eligible to compete in this year’s competition.
APPLICATIONS:
The enclosed application form must be received by the SVYSO orchestra manager by Monday, January 16 to be considered for the Preliminary round that will take place on Monday, January 23. No late or incomplete applications will be accepted.
REPERTOIRE:
Students must audition with the same concerto movement or other comparable work for both the Preliminary and Final rounds. The winning performance slot will be limited to a maximum of 15 minutes. All repertoire must be performed and memorized for both the Preliminary and Finals Rounds. Each audition for the Preliminaries and Finals will be limited to a maximum of 15 minutes. Contestants have the option of planning their own cuts or being stopped by the Timekeeper. Each finalist must provide their own accompanist for the Finals Recital, and two copies of the repertoire to be provided for the Finals Jury.
JURY:
Two external judges have been invited to serve as the Jury, none of whom can serve in consecutive years. Two copies of the music must be provided the Jury with planned cuts.
WINNER:
There will be only one winner from the entire competition who will perform with the Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra (SVYSO) on its Saturday, May 5, 2012 Concerto concert. Interested students must complete and submit the signed application form to be considered for the preliminary competition no later than Monday, January 16, 2012.The Preliminary Round will be heard on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 7:00 PM. Those deemed qualified and prepared will be passed on to the Concerto Finals Competition Recital that will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:30 PM.
