Three SVYS members won prizes at the second Young Musician’s Concert Contest, which took place at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield on November 12, 2004. Contestants from grade school through high school participated. The competition was conducted in a live performance, which was recorded for later broadcast on WUIS Radio.

Senior Soloist

1st Place

Gustavo Cabrera: violin, age 15, from Decatur performed the Concerto no. 1 in C by Kabalvesky.

 

Runner Up

Nini Zhang: flute, age 16, from Springfield played "Orientale" by R. de Boisdeffre.

 

Junior Soloist

1st Place

Molly La Camera: flute, age 13, from Springfield played Johannes Donjon's Pastorale "Pan."

 

Runner Up

Flutist Lydeah Negro, age 14, from New Berlin performed "Offertoire" by Johannes Donjon.

 

Best Ensemble

Winner

The flute duo of Ashley Quick & Nini Zhang, both age 16 and from Springfield played Franz Doppler's Concerto in D.
