Concerto Competition Winners to Perform at SVYS Spring Concert

Carly Piland, daughter of Jan and Greg Piland, is a sophomore at Springfield High School . She has been playing the flute for eight years, and as a private student of Debbie Eddy, performs with the Eddy Flute Choir which toured Ireland last July. In 2009, she was a first place winner in the Talent Among Us annual competitioin at Illinois College , an All-District band member, and an All-District vocal jazz soloist this year. Carly has been involved in community and school stage productions since the age of four and recently performed as Miss Sandra in “All Shook Up” as SHS. Carly will be performing on the Spring Concert as soloist for Chaminade Concerto for Flute. Madz is the daughter of Bill and Lori Negro. She has been playing the violin since the age of eight and currently studies private with Lisa Nelson. In 2006, Madz made her solo debut with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra as a winner of the Talent Among Us annual competition. An honor student at Sacred Heart Griffin High School, Madz earned her Silver Cross Award in piano and led the cross-country team to two state championships. When not playing violin, Madz can be found running trails and gutting fish in Alaska. For the SVYS Spring Concert, Madz will be featured as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, 1st Movement.
